Plant People

If your vision is for a year, plant wheat.
If your vision is for ten years, plant trees.
If your vision is for a lifetime, plant people.

~ Chinese Proverb

“Plant people.”

I don’t know if I need to say anything else!

You can’t possibly change the world on your own. You have to grow disciples. You have to give away a lot of the things on the “to do” list for reaching your vision. You have to give up control and let go. And while you’re letting go you have to be about the work of spreading the message.

You have to spread the word tirelessly, persistently, without wavering or faltering. You have to weather all of the storms, all of the slings and arrows.

To succeed, you have to plant people.

If your goal is for a year, make a resolution

If your goal is for five years, make a plan

If you goal will change the world, share your vision.

If you have a world changing vision, plant people.

Remember, your vision will change the world!

  1. This is one of my favorite quotes. I have seen it a little differently “If you want 1 year of prosperity, grow grain. If you want 10 years of prosperity, grow trees. If you want 100 years of prosperity, grow people.”

It is less daunting to think of growing people rather than planting them.

When someone asks “what do I get paid to do?”, I answer “to grow people”.
